How I do it

Bodywork modalities

Myofacial release: Gentle stretching and release of connective tissue

Craniosacral therapy: Very light touch to massage the central nervous system using the rhythm of cerebrospinal fluid going in and out of the brain and spinal chord

deep tissue, trigger point therapy: deeper pressure modalities for releasing certain types of restrictions. I use these very sparingly as they're harder on the body

Somatic modalities

Somatic experiencing: A spoken modality for trauma rehabilitation. It is essentially being present with your internal experiences, first finding pleasant things to embody like joy, peace, love, etc., and using those experiences as resources to allow for the release of trauma and less pleasant emotions.

Unwinding: Sometimes called somatic unwinding or myofascial unwinding. The fascia holds the shape of trauma, so the position of our body when we experience trauma can be a part of how it gets trapped within us. By allowing our body to re-process the trauma, moving in the ways it wanted but was unable to, we can release it. This modality is guiding and supporting my clients through that process.
